Hearing Loss Claims Service

See if you can claim on loss of hearing caused by a current or former employer.

Have you found yourself turning the television up to a higher volume recently? Struggled to keep up with a group conversation? Not heard the doorbell ring? Gradual hearing loss is a natural part of aging.

At least 50% of the over-60s suffer from a degree of hearing loss and, as with any medical problem, advice should be sought from your GP, as this could be as simple as an ear infection or a build up of wax. If upon initial investigation this is not the case you may be referred to an Audiology Clinic for a hearing test. The results of the test will be discussed with you and advice given. It may be that you require a hearing aid as this assists some sufferers as they amplify sound. There are numerous types of hearing aids, some worn behind the ear and others worn in the ear, these are available in both analogue and digital. You will receive specialist advice on the most suitable type for you and your lifestyle.

Tinnitus is the medical term used to explain the ringing, whistling or buzzing people hear. This can affect one or both ears. This can be caused by a number of things, ear or head injuries or continual exposure to loud noises. Work-related, or noise induced, hearing loss is a common problem for those who work or have worked in environments where they have been subjected to prolonged periods of high level noise without personal protective equipment being provided by the employer (such as ear defenders).

The symptoms often develop over a considerable period of time and subsequently it could be years before the employee even notices their hearing loss. Employers have a legal duty to monitor levels of noise in the workplace and protect the employee from excessive noise, however not all employers do this. If there is a medical diagnosis of industrial deafness by the GP, or the individual believes that they have suffered hearing loss, they could be entitled to help and compensation.
