Do you own a Hotpoint, Indesit or Creda tumble dryer? Make sure it’s not a fire risk

In the last 11 years, eight million tumble dryers sold by Hotpoint, Indesit and Creda may be household fire risks. The issue affects air-vented and condensed tumble dryers manufactured between April 2004 and September 2015. Excess fluff produced as a result of normal usage of machines sold during this period could reach the heating element in the dryer, and potentially cause a fire. Five million of the affected dryers have been sold in the UK.

By finding the model and serial number on your machine, it is strongly advised you use the Hotpoint (for both Hotpoint and Creda machines) or Indesit websites to check if your electrical appliance is safe. If you do own a machine identified during the affected time period, an engineer will schedule a visit to fix your dryer, free of charge, through the Hotpoint website. You can find your model and serial number on a tag that is located on the dryer door, either in the recess or on the back. The serial number is found beneath the barcode and it's made up of the nine numbers following, but not including, 'S/N'. If you dryer is one of those affected you will need to visit Hotpoint website to confirm and arrange a free visit from an engineer.


Electrical Safety First, the UK charity dedicated to reducing deaths and injuries caused by electrical accidents, recommends that anyone who discovers they have an electrical item that has been recalled should stop using it until it has been checked by the manufacturer.

Last year, research by consumer group Which? showed tumble dryers were one of the  biggest causes of house fires, accounting for 12 per cent, second only to washing machines at 14 per cent1.
