Talk to us, we'll help you get the best value we can by making sure you've covered only what needs to be covered. For example, we'll make sure you're insuring the cost of rebuilding your home, not its market value.
How do I value my house when getting buildings insurance?
Buildings insurance doesn't cover the market value of a home, it covers the costs of re-building that property. Most of the time, a mortgage provider will tell you what that 'rebuild' figure is as part of their survey work. It's the amount we'd pay if the property was completely destroyed and had to be rebuilt from scratch.
Is it a legal requirement to insure my building?
No it's not, but most mortgage providers insist on having buildings insurance in place and it does make sense to buy a policy that gives you peace of mind about your home.
Does my buildings insurance include flood damage?
Most of the time, yes. But if your property is in what the Environment Agency defines as a high-risk area, it's worth talking to us. As long as we know all the details, and you've told us about any previous floods or flood risk history, the cover we provide will always give you full protection against flood damage.
Can I insure my property if I have let it out to tenants?
Yes, we have policies that cover rental properties. This type of policy is subject to certain terms and conditions that involve your tenants, so it's best to call us on 0800 519 1020 to see if your circumstances meet our underwriting criteria.
I want insurance for a first-floor maisonette. If the ground floor flat burned down and the occupants had no insurance, would I be covered?
Sorry we can't provide buildings insurance for maisonette properties.
