Landlord insurance and responsibilities
When you set foot into a house as a tenant, you must know that though your landlord may have insured the building and the house through appropriate building insurance and buy to let insurance, it is your duty to insure your own belongings taking the help of contents insurance. This insurance will accord you protection against any damages to your valuable contents such as television, white goods, computers, personal effects, music tapes, CDs and so on.
The building insurance and buy to let insurance will only offer protection to the building and the house itself and that means coverage against any damage to the structure, fittings, bathroom unit and accessories, kitchen cabinets and so on. These are items or things that cannot be removed and hence fall under the coverage of the buy to let House Insurance.
You must also know that any improvements that you bring about in the house will not be covered by the original house insurance taken by the landlord and will have to be separately covered by you. Check out with your insurance agent the scope and how you need to protect yourself adequately against any future unfortunate events.
